Merchant Center review button greyed out? What to check

If the Merchant Center Request review button is greyed out, check the issue’s status, any cool-down date and unfinished verification tasks. Also check that your product data source is not empty. A disabled button needs an account check; editing the homepage alone cannot unlock it.

Why this matters

Start in Products → Needs attention → View setup and policy issues. Open the affected issue and note whether it is under review, waiting for another action or in a cool-down. Save the message as well as the date. The right next step depends on that status.

For a cool-down, Google’s review guidance says the button remains disabled until the period ends and support cannot shorten it. Use the date in your account. Google describes a possible cool-down after unsuccessful attempts; that is not a promise that every merchant gets the same number of attempts.

Without a cool-down message, check for identity verification requests and an empty product data source. Complete the requested verification through Merchant Center, and confirm that genuine products are submitted. Do not add a made-up item just to make the button available. If the account still offers no usable review route, contact Google support with the issue message and the steps you have completed.

If the status is already under review, keep the request confirmation and watch for the result. If it says review not approved, compare the remaining issues with your change record before submitting again. The guide for a suspension that remains after fixes explains that second audit.

Prepare the store while you resolve the account tasks. Use the misrepresentation fix guide to check policies, identity, offers and checkout, then record what changed. Choose the response in Merchant Center that truthfully describes your situation: a correction or a disagreement supported by evidence.

Typical evidence

Make each appeal a record of the changes

Google does not publish an appeal sequence or outcome formula. A submission is more useful when it names the changed page, the evidence and the remaining limits instead of repeating a conclusion.

Attempt 1Critical
One page changed
Evidence added
One before/after record
Attempt 2Critical
Same letter, reworded
Evidence added
No new storefront evidence
Attempt 3Critical
Every visible gap addressed
Evidence added
Dated evidence per change
Useful recordKeep it concrete: list each change, link the page, and attach dated evidence. StoreVerifier cannot predict the decision.

What it looks like once it is right

Illustrative fix: the merchant records the cool-down date, completes a pending verification request and checks that the corrected products have synced. They use the remaining time to verify store changes, then follow the review option shown after the cool-down ends.

Common mistakes

Common mistake

Illustrative example: a merchant sees a disabled review button, repeatedly changes the About page and asks support to remove a cool-down. The account still shows the same end date.

Questions merchants ask

Why is Request review greyed out in Google Merchant Center?

A cool-down disables the button. Google also lists incomplete verification and an empty product data source as things to check before review becomes available. Read the exact message in Needs attention; if the required tasks are complete and no option is available, ask Google support about that issue.

Can Google support shorten a Merchant Center cool-down?

Google’s published review guidance says support cannot bypass or shorten it. Use the expiration date in Needs attention, and spend that time checking the changes you intend to submit.

Should I request another review while one is in progress?

Keep the confirmation for the existing request and follow its status in Merchant Center. When a result arrives, check what remains unresolved before preparing another request. Repeating the same request does not add evidence that anything changed.

How many Merchant Center reviews can I request?

Do not rely on a fixed number quoted by a forum or service. Read the limits and options shown for your issue. Google distinguishes disagreement from a request after fixes and explains that unsuccessful requests can result in a cool-down.

Remediation

Risk signal

A review request is useful when it follows verified corrections. A greyed-out button is a reason to read the account status and finish the outstanding tasks, not a reason to create another account.
PriorityAddress and document this finding as part of the store’s remediation work.
EvidenceRecord the current state before each change, apply the fix, then capture the corrected state so every change is evidenced.
